LabWired is a deterministic virtual hardware tool for embedded firmware teams. It lets engineers and coding agents run real firmware against simulated peripherals and protocols, even in the browser. Tests are reproducible, CI-ready, and do not require physical boards. Teams can catch regressions, reproduce hardware bugs, test edge cases, and model sensors, buses, ECUs, BLE, UDS, and other hardware behavior for bring-up, QA automation, and AI-assisted development.

LabWired lets you run and test firmware before the hardware exists. Most of my firmware's interesting behavior runs against the digital twin, so bugs get caught at the cheapest layer instead of on a bench.

The killer feature for me is determinism. Same firmware and same inputs produce the same execution trace, byte for byte. That means you can fingerprint a known good run and gate CI on any drift from it. I validated this myself: I recomputed validation baselines on a fork and they matched the upstream project's hashes exactly.

The simulator treats peripheral end state as part of its contract. Your test does not just check that the code ran, it checks that the UART and peripherals ended up where the spec says they should. Multi-architecture support (ARM Cortex-M, RISC-V, ESP32) means one workflow across very different targets.

For software this new, it is remarkably usable.

Setting up the local validation toolchain from scratch could be better documented.

But, that's a nit to pick. Overall, LabWired needs more users to reach its full potential. I'd recommend this software to anybody but the largest corporations, who already pay for proprietary tooling. Hobbyists will help push the boundaries, and I believe small to medium hardware companies are the true sweet spot. I've already had three contributions merged upstream and got incredible support from the maintainer. I believe this is an excellent chance for a company to truly own their design process.

There aren't any real open alternatives that I've found. I've had my eye out for something like this for many years. Until now the only way to get this functionality was proprietary corporate packages.
