I'm promoting KudoWrite - an AI app for writing fiction (drafting, rewriting and expanding scenes) without a subscription, without content filters, and without your drafts being used to train anyone's AI.
I started building it because I write on the side, and every AI tool I tried kept getting in the way. The good ones were subscriptions that quietly added up on what's really just a hobby, and most of them flat-out refused anything dark or explicit - which is half of what I actually want to write.
What bothered me most was the feeling that I was renting access to my own writing process, month after month, and never quite knowing what happened to my drafts once they left my hands.
I went looking for something simpler, cheaper and more private, and couldn't find it. So I made it.
With KudoWrite there's nothing to set up: you sign up, confirm your email, and get a free credit to try it (about 10 rewrites). After that you buy credits only when you need them - $3.50 for 100, roughly a short novel - and they don't reset every month. No subscription. KudoWrite adds no content filter of its own, and the built-in model was picked partly because it rarely refuses. Your work saves automatically to your account, syncs across devices, and you can export it any time (EPUB, PDF, Markdown or plain text).
It also keeps track of your book for you. Every scene you commit updates a story bible (characters, places, items) and a running summary, so chapter 30 is written with chapter 1 in mind. If your draft is already somewhere else, you can import it: Word, EPUB, Scrivener, Novelcrafter, even a Sudowrite story bible.
On privacy: your books are private to your account unless you choose to publish a chapter. The built-in AI runs only on hosts that don't keep or train on what you send. If you'd rather use your own OpenRouter or Mistral key, you can - you pay the provider directly and KudoWrite adds no markup.
So KudoWrite is my labor of love - an affordable way for writers to draft with AI on their own terms. It's still early days, and I'd love for people to try it and tell me what the experience is like!
