Hello Product Hunt, Thanks for taking the time to check out my product.
This is my first public release of an application. I have a fairly rough background in programming through the Warcraft 3 editor, and some basic Fallout, and Skyrim modding experience.
The first thing I ever released, I wanted it to be free and something everybody could use and enjoy.
Currently working on over five different apps right now. One of them is finished, and this was ultimately a hobby project that I was working on in between the others.
I needed something to keep my PC awake and also make sure that my programs and apps were still functioning. I found the windows and the app specific anti-sleep utilities inadequate and inconsistent. I found caffeine and then realized there's a million copies of it, and they're all outdated, Insecure and unreliable.
So I made my own. and it does a whole lot more than keep your PC awake; it maintains an equally small profile, allows you to control the brightness of analog displays, provides 10X the utility, functionality, has passion put into it, is consistently updated, and brings back the age of the screen saver, or at the very least, brings in the age of on-demand screen blackout.
KiT is a quiet Windows companion with three modes: Light keeps the PC and display awake, Night darkens the desktop without sleeping the machine (a touch of activity brings it back, or an option for Night Hold), and Off returns ordinary Windows. Each mode is one gesture — a hotkey chord or a click on the control bar — no schedules or idle timers to configure.
The part I'm most particular about is what it refuses to do: no account, no cloud, no telemetry, no keystroke or clipboard recording, no fake mouse/keyboard input to trick the OS into thinking you're there. It runs as a single local instance and only checks for updates when you ask it to. Every release ships with a SHA-256 digest so you can verify exactly what you downloaded.
Night mode can be a black screen (Screensaver -> Off), and there are four real screensaver faces (Cosmos (default), DVD, Snake, Orbit) built to feel alive without being distracting or heavy on a laptop battery.
It's free, works as an installer or a no-admin portable exe, and I'd genuinely like to hear what breaks, what's confusing, or what you'd want next. Ask me anything below.
