Hi Everyone! I am proud to be launching KernelCash, my take on privacy-first, simple budgeting. This application started out from my frustrations with large, bloated budgeting and personal finance apps requesting access to more data than I was comfortable with sharing.
Like many others, I started budgeting on paper, then a spreadsheet, and eventually made my way to some of the larger budgeting and personal finance apps on the market. Over my time using these apps, I found it hard to believe how cluttered and cumbersome many of the budgeting apps out there are. I was initially ecstatic about the fact that I could have these apps automatically import my finances from my bank accounts, but while reading into some of the ways large companies treat user data within financial apps, I was honestly appalled at the fact that I was potentially giving away my data and access to my bank accounts!
Programming is one of my biggest passions, so naturally I attempted (it took a couple attempts) to create a lean and easy to use budgeting app that has now turned into KernelCash. Funnily enough, when this product was in what I would call KernelCash's "Alpha" state, it was good enough for me. I was more than happy to leave the app in its local-only, self-hosted state, but after talking with some friends, family, and colleagues about the app, and seeing their excitement to get their hands on it, I realized that this could be a valuable tool for many people other than myself. So, after nearly a year of hard work getting the core components and infrastructure of KernelCash up and running, I am finally ready to share it will all of you!
Feel free to ask me any question you all may have! I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say!
