Hi Product Hunt! I'm Álvaro, a solo developer from Spain.
I'm a Japanese enthusiast, learning the language in my spare time. I wanted one app that put together three things: writing practice where something actually checks my strokes, the vocabulary each kanji lives in, and my own lesson order instead of the app's. I couldn't find it, so I built KanjiKaku.
What it does:
- Checks every stroke as you write it: order and direction, plus details like a missing hook
- 2,140 kanji (all the jōyō) and over 19,000 study words, with over 20,000 example sentences
- Decks you build yourself, which you can export and share (teachers can hand out a deck per unit)
- A hands-free "podcast" mode for reviewing vocabulary on the train
- You can study without a connection
The first 130 kanji are free. Unlocking everything is a one-time purchase: 1.99 € launch price until November 15, 8 € after that. No subscription, no ads.
I'd love feedback, especially from anyone who has tried other kanji apps: what's missing, what annoys you, where the stroke checking gets it wrong.
