Alex MacArthur
I've been blogging on/off for a while now. When I first got started, I was pretty unimpressed with the options available for adding comments to a website (particularly for static site generators), but ended up settling with Disqus anyway. It's a good tool for the right use cases, but for me, I just wanted something simple, performant, and non-intrusive when it comes to managing personal data (didn't want them to be selling my deets to others or embedding surprise ads). After some time, I became unsatisfied enough to do something about it and attempt to build the sort of platform I've been wanting for a while. Enter: JamComments! JamComments is a guilt-free comment service specifically geared toward (but not limited to) static site generators. It integrates directly with your SSG's build system to generate statically-rendered, SEO friendly comments without the enormous, client-side JavaScript bundle. To start, integrations are available for Gatsby, Eleventy, and Next.js. I've been dog-fooding it on my own site (https://macarthur.me) for several months now and have an exciting backlog of how I'm gonna iterate in the coming months. Pretty pumped about it. Thanks for checking it out -- eager to hear your feedback!
