The showtime on your ticket isn’t when the movie starts. It’s Starting! tells you how long the previews usually run at your theater, using start times that moviegoers log from their seats. It also covers the room you’re about to pay for: the screen format and quality, the sound, which rows are best, whether the recliners work and more. It’s free, and there are no ads.

I built "It's Starting!" to help moviegoers make the most of their experience. That means knowing what time the movie really starts after the trailers, alongside auditorium-by-auditorium reports detailing what makes a room great, or not so great.
Moviegoers select their theater, movie, and ticketed showtime. When the trailers end, they tap "It's Starting!" to lock in the time. When the movie is over, they get a pop-up asking for a single quick rating, such as: "How was the screen quality during [Movie]?" They also have the option to fill out a full one-minute report.
In six weeks through a few Reddit posts, several hundred people downloaded and started using the app. As of 11/1, 730 movies have been logged at 205 theaters across 32 states, and 2,020 survey answers have been submitted.
Attracting new users, however, is proving difficult, and I don't want to resort to ad spend. Reddit mods (understandably, but frustratingly) are very strict about self-promotion, so I wasn't able to do much beyond the initial intro posts. Second, users on platforms like Reddit are skeptical of anything in this current app climate, immediately assuming it was spun up in an hour with AI—trying to explain that it took six months of work doesn't really move the needle.
I'm looking for feedback overall on the app and experience, as well as advice on how to acquire users beyond just "post on Reddit and Discord." Looking forward to seeing what this community offers!
