isopod.lol turns one glossy internet bug into eight paid advertising placements. Claim an open plate from $3 to $19. Once it is owned, anyone can steal it for the last paid price + $10. The first purchase starts a 14-day season, then the final owners stay on the shell for 90 days. Plate 01 owns the thought bubble. Every listing is reviewed before going live.

Hey Product Hunt, I like isopods, and I wanted to build an attention auction that was not another ranked table. So I put eight advertising plates on one glossy internet bug. Each plate has its own opening price. Once claimed, somebody else can steal it by paying the last price + $10. Plate 01 controls what the isopod is thinking about. The first purchase starts a 14-day season. When it ends, the final eight owners stay on the shell for 90 days. The mechanic was inspired by outbid.lol, but I wanted finite inventory, a visual location for every buyer, human moderation, and an ending. It may become a dramatic little corner of the internet. It may remain one patient isopod waiting for buyers. That is the experiment. I would love to know which plate you would steal.

Wrote the boring part down so I wouldn’t lie to myself later:

Hardest bit wasn’t the bug. It was two browsers hitting the same plate.
Displayed price is a quote. Server creates a short reservation on (season, plate, version). Ownership only moves after a completed capture. If PayPal is “approved” but not captured, the plate stays locked. Fail closed.

If you’ve shipped anything with webhooks: do you release the slot when the tab closes, or wait for the provider?

Other messy pieces in that writeup:
refunds are ownership rollbacks, not deletes
magic link is a hashed token, email fail does not undo the payment
SVG logos get stripped so a plate can’t ship a script
