What's great

I've been looking for a better way to provide AI coding agents with consistent project context, and Infimium solves a real problem. Instead of repeatedly pasting repository context into different AI tools, it creates a local intelligence layer that works across supported MCP clients.

Some features I liked:

Local-first architecture keeps repositories and project data on my machine.
AST-first retrieval is an efficient way to reduce unnecessary token usage.
Semantic code search is fast and returns relevant symbols instead of dumping entire files.
Dependency graph makes understanding callers, imports, and relationships much easier.
Project memory persists important repository knowledge across sessions.
Playground provides visibility into what the AI agent actually sees.
Simple setup using npx infimium@latest setup.
No Docker or external vector database required because SQLite is built in.
MIT license and self-hosting make it easy to adopt for individual developers.

What needs improvement

A few areas could make the product even stronger:

More detailed onboarding and setup tutorials for first-time users.
Better documentation with real-world workflows for large codebases.
Support for more programming languages and frameworks.
Team collaboration features for shared repository memory.
Richer analytics showing retrieval quality and context effectiveness.
IDE plugins with more visual insights during development.
More examples demonstrating performance improvements in production projects.

vs Alternatives

I also considered using built-in memory features from Cursor, Claude Code, and Windsurf, along with generic RAG or memory solutions.

I chose Infimium because it is focused specifically on repository intelligence rather than generic memory. The combination of semantic search, dependency awareness, project memory, and local privacy provides a much stronger foundation for AI-assisted development.
