I built Ilena because I wanted a writing tool for lyricists and poets that actually respected the writer. A lot of modern writing tools start with a blank prompt and try to generate something for you. Ilena takes almost the opposite approach: you write, and Ilena works alongside you. It helps you explore rhymes and words, understand syllables and meter, organize your songs and poems, keep versions of your work, and get contextual suggestions when you want them, without taking control of the creative process. Ilena currently works in English, French, and Spanish, and I’ve spent a lot of time building the linguistic side so it can understand things that matter specifically to lyricists and poets, not just general-purpose writing. One principle has guided the product from the beginning: The author remains the author. Ilena should help you find the word you were looking for, not write the song instead of you.
