I see a drawback:
You must validate your idea with your target audience. Otherwise, validation will be useless.
Keep in mind IdeaZap is a community of entrepreneurs, as you point out.
@inthe0n Good point. I've updated the description to "Instant idea feedback". IdeaZap right now is useful for gauging general interest.
However, my goal in the near future is to allow users to subscribe to topics, say parenting, and allow ideas to be targeted to these specific topics for a better validation.
Cheers ✌️

What if a great idea got stolen?
For example, if i come up with a life changing idea and post it there just to see the feedback or to get subscribers. And someone in the community who has enough resources to create a business implements the idea without any credits to me. How my idea is protected here?
@jaga_deep Good question. Your ideas are not protected, but I believe the pre-validation and feedback make it worth it. Here's a great article on why: https://medium.com/startup-grind...

@jaga_deep@jjcoleman97 why not add an NDA option for ideas, so people get to fill one before opening an NDA enabled idea, like on Freelancer with Projects?
Report
@daniel_the_geek i saw about that, but NDA can't be effectively used with ideas. it is fine for freelance works but as the idea will be displayed to many people. They can just take the idea and implement it with the help of thirdparty. In this case you can't sue no one,as the third party could just evade by saying they never spoke to you and the person who took the idea haven't implemented it.
Report
@jaga_deep Well, there's actually no need to stress this, we're just talking about an idea, right? If anyone feels their idea is great, they wouldn't need IdeaZap anyways.
Report
@daniel_the_geek probably you're right.
Just in exceptional cases.

Love this so much!
One thing, can you make it possible to pick NO topics? I'd like to see everything without particular filters.
So sorry about the mishap Mark. The email was sent out in error, they were meant to be collected, then imported to Mailchimp, not sent. My fault. The bug has been fixed. I'll be sending out an email as soon as possible explaining the mishap.

Are there any protections? Like I see potential benefit, but I also see a HUGE exposure risk... Are these "entrepreneurs" validated and vetted or is this GP? I would say this probably isn't for possibly disruptive ideas. My partner and I be a possibly disruptive idea, but are struggling with protection while getting validation now.
Report
@jjcoleman97 Do you have any more information on this?
@kclewis0614 Hi, while ideas are definitely not protected on IdeaZap right now, I do think the benefits of pre validation and getting feedback is more important than potential competition coming along. I'd refer you to this article for why I think so: https://medium.com/startup-grind....
That being said, if you have a solution I haven't thought of, I'm open to ideas 🙌

Great concept! Validation is everything. One comment is to add a marketing category and possibly some sub-categories (B2B, etc). Also as mentioned below some data on community personas would also be helpful. Love the on-boarding btw, super simple!
@gwerner Thanks! Adding those categories now. Do you mind clarifying your comment about adding data? Not exactly sure what you mean
Report
@jjcoleman97 wow great response time! kudos :-). anyway, what i mean by data is information about (generally speaking) what personas are represented on your platform and what personas are voting for your idea. for example, if my product is focused for sales reps, then having engineers rate the product is informative but not something i would necessarily use to as reliable validation data. so i guess the trick would be to identify the persona during the onboarding process with a couple of basic questions and then reflect a brief breakdown of those personas when viewing votes/comments. does that help?
@gwerner Ah good points. Right now I have the topics users subscribed to during on-boarding to use as data, I plan on exposing that info when viewing votes, like you say. Do you think I should ask for more user info, besides subscribed topics?
Super helpful, thanks!

Signed up yesterday - received about 10 emails (all with the same content) within an hour.
More worrying - the distro list is available within the 'To' field...
No unsubscribe in the email either?
If the Ideazap folks get in touch - I can forward on. Not overly impressive sadly..
Perhaps some kind of error yesterday?
Pros:Nice idea
Cons:Email 'to' list exposed
