Phrasebooks teach you what to say, but never what comes back. Hundred Words teaches the 100 words you need for a trip inside the real conversations you will have: the 7-Eleven cashier asking if you want a bag, the Grab driver in Da Nang, the petrol station attendant in Taiwan. Each scene shows what you hear and what to say back, with audio. Mandarin for China and Taiwan, Taiwanese Hokkien, Vietnamese, Japanese and Thai. Free, no account needed.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Mark. I've lived and worked across Asia for more than 25 years and travelled to 30 countries and territories. In most of them I can ask for what I want. Where I come unstuck is the next line.
I put a drink on the counter at 7-Eleven in Taipei and pay. The cashier asks me something. It's almost always "do you want a bag?", but in the moment it's a blur of sound and I nod at the wrong thing. At a petrol station in Taiwan I asked for a full tank, and it took a lot of pointing before I worked out that my petrol cap was on the other side of the car.
Phrasebooks teach you what to say. They never teach what comes back. So I built Hundred Words: the 100 words for the places you'll really be, inside the conversations you'll really have, replies included. Every scene comes from a moment on one of my trips where I got stuck.
What's there today:
Real scenes for China, Da Nang and Taiwan, with what you hear and what you say back, plus audio
Taiwanese Hokkien as its own language (a first draft)
A personal trip guide with your food and allergy phrases, and a pocket card to print
Smart practice, which tests you on the words you get wrong
It's free, with no account needed. The whole roadmap is public and scored, and your votes move it: 100wordsapp.com/roadmap
Two things would help me most: which city or counter should I add next, and if a line sounds off to a local, tap "Sounds off" on that scene.
