Most screenwriters are outdated, paid, or cloud-only. Hiiscript is different: a free, MIT-licensed, offline-first screenplay editor for Windows, Linux, and Android. Scripts, characters, and scene suggestions stay on your device. No accounts, no ads, no analytics. Format scenes, add title pages, preview pagination, and export to Fountain or Markdown. Built with Electron and Capacitor by a Blender animator who couldn't find a tool that respected the same offline, open-source values.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm a Blender animator. My whole pipeline is free, open source, and offline. When I needed a screenwriting tool, I couldn't find one that matched — most were outdated, paid, or cloud-only.
So I built Hiiscript: offline-first, MIT-licensed, and free. Available for Windows, Linux, Ubuntu/Debian, and Android.
Features I'm proud of:
- Fountain and Markdown export
- Local character/scene Library (transferable as JSON)
- Automatic preview pagination
- Focus mode and scene navigation
- No accounts, ads, analytics, or background uploads
I'd love feedback from screenwriters and filmmakers — especially on formatting and the Fountain export. And if you're a developer, accessibility advocate, or tester, the repo has "good first issues" ready.
