The Touch Bar can get in the way of productivity, especially when it's no longer in its prime and starts flickering. So how do you even turn it off?
Hide My Bar is a macOS app that allows you to turn the Touch Bar on and off in an instant.
Simply double-tap on the key of your choice and the Touch Bar will be disabled and will stop flickering. Need it again for a quick action? Double-tap again to turn it back on.
Curious how this affects battery life? Would be interesting to see a comparison of battery life with the touch bar on 100% of the time and the touch bar off 100% of the time and if it makes any difference.
@charlesalexnder haha there are some good features that come with it for some apps. The cool thing with Hide My Bar is that you can have the best of both worlds. Thanks for your support!
I generally check developers background and seriousness of the company before installing an app that control my accessibility settings. In your case I hadn't finished reading your hero section when I decided to install it. Thank you for allowing me to kill this abomination.
Hello all 🖐,
I am the maker of Hide My Bar. I bought a Macbook with a Touch Bar a few months ago and while I loved some of the features, I found myself distracted when accidentally hitting keys.
I then decided to create an app to be able to turn off the Touch Bar while keeping the personal config and cool features of the Touch Bar for when you need it. It's surprisingly very smooth with any workflow. Just double press a key to hide it.
Other features in a nutshell:
- Works out of the box: no settings to change
- Display most common controls in the menu (Volume, Brightness, Mute, ...)
- Use regular shortcut to hide / show the Touch Bar
- Works seamlessly with other Touch Bar applications such as BetterTouchTool
I hope you enjoy it!

@podolsky_andre why Hide My Bar? I found there were two groups of people: those who were totally fine and happy with the Touch Bar and those who were frequently hit it by accident. If you belong to the 1st group then you are lucky 😀.
I definitely got frustrated too many times and saw enough people complaining that I thought we needed an app for it.
