First of all, I want to say, I’m elated that HG Focus is now available on Product Hunt. The HG Focus Chrome extension has been an exciting project because it finally brings our database, the largest DB of installed technology insights, directly into your hands.
Let’s be clear about what HG Focus is and isn’t. HG Focus *ISN’T* built on scraping for web techs. If you want a product that scrapes websites for basically public knowledge tech installs check out Builtwith, Datanyze or Ghostery. HG Focus *IS* created using data science applied to the public domain which then tells us what technologies companies are using, even if a technology is installed behind the firewall.
Up until this freemium Chrome extension, our data was only sold to the top F500 tech companies. Not to sound elitist, but this kind of data collection methodology, natural language processing, and machine learning algorithms pretty much dominate the field of installed technology insight.. And they could only truly be used by the big dogs with huge analytics teams. Because of this, HG Data’s datasets did not make it to the frontline sales reps a lot of the time.
