This project is called Helios SQL Studio, developed using AI-assisted coding ("vibecoding"). It was created to meet my personal needs while working with Oracle databases and PL/SQL. The reason for its creation is simple: after years of using various SQL IDEs—such as DBeaver, DataGrip, SQL Developer, SQL Navigator, and Navicat—I was never fully satisfied with any of them; each had its own set of pros and cons. Furthermore, after switching from Windows to Linux, I found the experience of using these IDEs on Linux to be truly poor. Driven by work requirements, I decided to build my own IDE, incorporating the best features of the tools I had previously used. The project began in late May 2026; it took over four months of testing and bug fixing before I decided to publish it on GitHub, and the product has now reached a relatively stable state.
Initially, the product focused on Oracle PL/SQL development. Once stability was achieved, I began adding support for other databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite. However, due to limited testing opportunities with these new databases, bugs are inevitable, though they will be addressed over time.
Naturally, I have no intention of competing with IDE giants like DataGrip or DBeaver; consequently, I likely won't be developing the highly advanced features that I rarely use myself. As a result, this product may not satisfy the most demanding users.
As I mentioned, the product already meets my personal needs quite well, though nothing is perfect. If I discover any bugs in the future, I will fix them and release updates.
Installation:
Download the file corresponding to your operating system version.
Extract the files.
Run the .bat file (for Windows) or the .sh file (for Linux and macOS).
The application comes bundled with JRE version 17, so users do not need to install Java separately.
A universal version is also available; this version does not include the JRE, requiring users to install and configure the JDK to use it.
Note: I don't have a Mac to test the application.
