Hey Product Hunt! 👋 Let me answer the inspirational questions directly: Q: What inspired you to build this? A: The inspiration comes from the real-life pain (mine and other's). I’m an amateur cyclist who spends winters on the trainer doing virtual sessions on apps like Zwift, Rouvy, Whoosh. Last year my old chest strap finally died from sweat and age. I looked at my Apple Watch and thought — why am I not using the excellent heart-rate sensor that’s already on my wrist? Q: What problem were you trying to solve? A: First, I tried existing apps and all of them forced an iPhone in the middle. That killed my phone battery (especially since I use it as a hotspot for my MacBook) and added annoying extra steps. Plus the competitors either shoved ads in my face before every ride or cut off mid-sprint because the free session ended. That was the problem that I decided to solve using my software development skills. I built HeartBLE as a pure watchOS app that broadcasts your Apple Watch heart rate directly — iPhone app doesn't exist at all. I started with market research, realized the direct-connection gap was huge, and just kept stripping away everything that annoyed me: no ads, no tracking, no subscriptions, just a proper 7-day trial and one-time purchase. Q: How did your approach or process evolve while working on this launch? A: As in my workouts, with pain and vigor. The app was launched on May 5, almost a month ago, and marketing seems to be very challenging. I'm using free platforms to market the app: Facebook, Reddit, Discord groups (the last is useless). I created a tester program that goes like this: - User tests my app during trial and fills the feedback form. - I send them a promo code for premium, which saves them $13 or €15 in Europe. That may sound like a legitimate way to market the app, but there was a lot of friction. Google moves down the app in the search results. For some period, the app wasn't searchable in the App Store, user from New Zealand complained. Facebook tried to block my account. Some threads on Reddit were deleted. So far only 15 users enrolled in testing and only 3 of them completed the survey... That's really slow for the effort I put into it! Marketing takes more time than the development did!
