Thanks @xikolarico for the hunt! My name is Daniel, I'm the maker of Headset. I've been a music lover since I can remember myself. When I got into coding 6 years ago, I literally couldn't function without my headphones blasting music at me non-stop. That's what kept me focused and energized. I used Rdio and Spotify for a couple of years, but when my financials went up the spout, I had to use YouTube as a free alternative. I quickly realized that YouTube has absolutely everything I was looking for (and beyond), but YouTube is not designed at all to play music, and it drove me nuts. I missed the little things like using the keyboard media keys, building queues, music discovery... In addition, some videos such as EDM are so NSFW that I couldn't actually listen to them at work. 😆 I built Headset to mainly solve my problem. After some research, I found out that I'm not the only one who struggle and decided to turn it into a real product. Currently, it only runs on Mac. Windows/Linux versions will be out soon.

Hi Daniel, Have been using the product for the past couple of days now. This is a brilliant idea and don't see that this will be discontinued since you bypassed the Youtube policy law. Few features I'd like to see in the future: - Scrobbler for last.fm - Option to pause the autoplay - Option to play all the songs in the search results - History feature to re-visit the tracks/playlists I played I think I will continue to use this as my primary music streaming on mac once these features are there. Do you plan to monetize in the future? Thanks. :)

Is it against the YouTube ToS if you embed video in a format other than a perfect rectangle? I was fancying an optional UI with video playing in the place of album art (main UI circle) without a separate floating window. Because, I just want the preview of what's playing and don't mind it being cropped.

@binoyxj a perfect rectangle (200x200) is the bare minimum, so no, according to the ToS, it can be any size greater than that. However, if the video is embedded in the main UI, it will have to be visible all the times with no option to "switch it off", that's why I felt that the floating window is the ideal workaround because it's not violating that constraint.

@danielravina fair enough. Gotta say I'm in love with this app already. Most of the regional labels in India consider YouTube first as part of their strategy. This helps.

Was searching a similar app for the past one week . :) One quick question why do you need a signup and password field , Are you planning to monetize it as subscription ? ( my guess is for storing likes and collections ) . And the password restrictions of uppercase and lowercase looked like an unwanted security for a mac app :/ . Great job otherwise :)

@shylendar thanks a lot! The signup is required for you to save collections of music and allows you to use the app on multiple devices. Can you explain what you mean by 'unwanted'? I know it can be frustrating sometimes. Even my bank doesn't have a strict policy. But on the other hand, this is your data and I have no way of mitigating brute-force attacks. To make it easy for users, I will soon make the signup optional and let people try it without any commitment. As for monetization, still a bit early to tell but that's certainly a possibility.
