What inspired you to build this? I kept seeing construction teams run entire projects out of spreadsheets, group chats, and paper — tools that don't scale with the chaos of a real job site. Most construction software is either too heavy, too expensive, or built for enterprise crews with dedicated admins. There was nothing lightweight enough for the small-to-mid teams who need it most. What problem were you trying to solve? Traditional project management in construction is hectic — scattered updates, lost receipts, unclear progress, and no single source of truth. HardCap is the stepping stone: a simple, approachable app that brings progress tracking, budgets, daily logs, and team coordination into one place, and uses AI to cut down the busywork that usually eats a manager's day. How did your approach evolve? I started out trying to build a full-featured platform, but quickly realized the win was in simplicity. Every time I added a feature, I asked whether it reduced friction or added to it. That shift — from "more tools" to "fewer, smarter ones" — shaped the whole product. AI became less of a gimmick and more of a quiet assistant that handles the tedious parts so teams can focus on the build.
