I build software in Thoothukudi, in the south of India, and HappyRec came out of a problem my own team kept having. We record a lot of walkthroughs and handovers, and half of us would rather not be on camera - some because of where they are sitting, some because they just do not want to be.

The usual answer is to turn the camera off, and the recording gets worse. Nobody can tell who is talking or where you are pointing.

So HappyRec lets you be on camera without being on camera. Turn on avatar mode and one of 12 characters takes your place, driven by your own face tracking - it blinks when you blink and its mouth moves when yours does - while your camera image is never written to the file. The voice changer works the same way, shifting pitch and formants in real time. It is signal processing, not speech recognition, so it sounds the same in English, Tamil, Hindi or anything else. There is no language setting because it does not need one.

The rest is an ordinary recorder: screen, window, area or voice only, up to 4K 60fps, system audio and your voice together, pause and continue. Native Swift on Mac, no Electron.

Everything stays on your machine. No account, no sign-up, no cloud, no analytics. Recordings go to a folder you pick. It is free - the only thing we ask is a small badge in the corner of the video.
