The HackerSearch widget embedded in this site is a lightweight, client‑side search tool that lets you issue queries to multiple major search engines—Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Baidu—without ever leaving the page. Built entirely in vanilla JavaScript and styled to blend seamlessly with the site’s minimal aesthetic, it offers: Multi‑Engine Selection A dropdown menu allows you to switch instantly between engines. Each engine’s official favicon is displayed alongside its name for quick recognition. Real‑Time Query Dispatch As you type into the input field, the widget listens for the Enter key or a click on the “Search” button (“搜索”). Upon submission, it constructs the appropriate URL for your chosen engine and opens it in a new browser tab, ensuring your reading session here remains undisturbed. Persistent Search History Every query you run is saved locally (via localStorage) and displayed in the “Search History” panel below the input. Click any past query to rerun it instantly, or use the “Clear History” button to wipe all stored entries at once. Privacy‑Minded Design No data is sent back to the site owner: all history stays on your device, and no external analytics are loaded. The widget’s code is fully open‑source (MIT‑licensed), so you can audit or fork it directly from the Neko Labs GitHub repo. Mobile‑Friendly & Accessible Responsive CSS ensures it fits nicely on screens of any size; touch targets meet WCAG guidelines for accessibility. Keyboard‑only users can tab through the dropdown, input field, and buttons without losing context. Under the hood, it’s just a small JavaScript module (under 5 KB gzipped) that: Reads and writes a JSON array of past queries to localStorage. Dynamically populates the search‑engine list on initialization. Gracefully degrades if JavaScript is disabled (hiding the widget entirely). Whether you’re a polyglot researcher bouncing between English‑ and Chinese‑language sources, or you simply like to compare results across engines, HackerSearch makes it fast, convenient, and private.
