Gym anxiety is something I experienced personally for years. I'd pay for memberships, plan to go, and then talk myself out of it at the last minute, sometimes literally sitting in the car park and driving home without going in.
What finally changed it wasn't a workout plan or a YouTube video. It was the first time I went with someone who knew the place. Suddenly I knew where things were, I had someone to ask questions without feeling stupid, and the whole experience stopped feeling like everyone was watching me.
That stuck with me. Because the information to get fit is everywhere, it's free, it's abundant.
What's actually missing for a lot of people isn't knowledge, it's company. I built GymBuddy because I genuinely believe that's the gap. Not another fitness tracker or calorie counter, just a way to find someone to go with who gets it.
The anxiety-aware matching was the piece I felt most strongly about. Experienced buddies who opt in specifically to support nervous beginners changes the dynamic completely, it's not two strangers meeting at a gym, it's someone who remembers exactly what that first session felt like showing up for someone going through it now.
We're just getting started and launching London-first. Would love to hear from anyone who's experienced this, did having company make the difference for you?
