Gumshoe

The first shoe made from chewing gum

Gumshoe is the world's first pair of shoes made with 100% recycled chewing gum. The soles of these shoes are made from recycled chewing gum from the streets of Amsterdam. In the Netherlands 1.5 million kilos of gum ends up on the street every year. By buying these shoes you contribute to the solution, by wearing them you show your support.

What do you think? …

Vivek Sancheti
Is this 100% made up of gum?
Luuk Vreeburg
@evivz Nope. "Made from premium matt leather." "The outsole of this product is made of RECYCLED CHEWING GUM"
Julia Kuntsevich
@luuk_vreeburg oh thank you for this explanation. I mean my first thought was wouldn't my feet sweat too much in fully gum/rubber shoe. But if it has leather top then it's not an issue!

Wow, this is extremely innovative. After traveling in Amsterdam and seeing the gum litter problem I always wondered if there was a way to take another approach to solving the problem. Great work to this team!

The project is so cool! Thumbs up guys! But is it commercially viable or should be subsidized? I mean what about the cost vs revenue? According to the video it seems to have been a big effort to collect gum from all around Amsterdam. I wonder what is the approximate cost of one shoe, can it be reduced if mass produced, what is the vision about future project scaling?
Stephan Tual
@julia_k At 200 usd per pair, clearly there's a certain cost to all this, which they must have onboarded and passing on to the customer. Hopefully we'll see economies of scale in the future.

What a great concept... would be good to know more about how gum is used in the manufacturing process.

Wat?!?!
Ayush Mishra
How about the life of the shoe? Also, is it too heavy?
