A free precision agriculture app built for a single Italian village. Combines satellite data, ML risk models, and AI-generated daily briefs to help small-scale farmers protect heritage vineyards and olive groves. No login, no cost, no data collected.
Hey Product Hunt š
I'm Angelo, a Senior Engineer based in Berlin. I grew up in Guardia Sanframondi ā a hilltop village of 5,000 people in Southern Italy's Sannio wine region, where families have grown Falanghina and Aglianico grapes for centuries.
One evening I was looking at Copernicus satellite data and had a thought: what if I could turn publicly available weather and satellite data into something genuinely useful for the farmers I grew up with?
That became Guardia del Campo.
**What it does:**
Every morning, the app tells a farmer: "Don't spray copper today ā rain in 3 hours will wash it away. Wait until Thursday." Or: "Frost alert tonight at your elevation ā cover sensitive vines before sunset."
It combines Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, 7 weather APIs, and ML models trained specifically on local cultivars (Falanghina, Aglianico, Greco, Piedirosso for wine ā Ortice, Leccino, Racioppella for olives) to predict risks like downy mildew, powdery mildew, olive fly, frost, and drought.
**What makes it different from big AgTech platforms:**
ā It's free. No subscription, no trial, no "contact sales."
ā It's hyper-local. Trained on 305,000+ environmental records from one specific microclimate since 2015.
ā It's anonymous. No login, no registration. A farmer can report a disease sighting in 2 minutes without giving their name.
ā It explains itself. Every risk prediction shows WHY it's high ā "humidity 89% + leaf wetness 14h drove peronospora risk up" ā using SHAP explainability. No black boxes.
ā It runs on near-zero infrastructure (Supabase + Vercel + GitHub Actions).
**The honest part:**
Big platforms like xFarm and Agricolus are operationally more mature ā they have hardware integrations, compliance tools, and thousands of customers. My ML methodology is more sophisticated (conformal prediction, 7-algorithm competition, automated drift monitoring), but I have fewer users and less field validation. This is a passion project, not a VC-backed startup.
**I'd love your feedback on:**
- Does the concept of a "civic intelligence layer" for small towns resonate?
- Would you use something like this for your local community?
- What features would make you actually open this every day?
