@gabrielle_bourret_sicotte When inputting your food types, does it offset by the ingredient it is or by the brand and where that brand is shipped to to get to the grocery store that a person uses?
@thea_mark good question! At the moment it is country based and factored. So for example in the UK most beef is UK grown rather than imported (a ratio of around 90:10) Therefore in the app we assume 90% of the beef people log in the UK is local (so transport is minimal) and 10% is imported (for example from Argentina) and then the transport footprint is slightly higher.
The carbon footprint of a simple food though such as pasta sauce does depend on the brand however as each brand uses different percentages of each ingredient. For example: veggie or chicken stock in the sauce, percentage of tomato content, sugar etc. So you get to see exactly which one is most sustainable :)
We are working on adding factors for organic foods too as those are renowned to have a lower footprint! Keep you eyes and your vegetables peeled!
