GitTab is a lightweight, high-performance Chrome extension that solves tab overload. Capture snapshots of your open tabs ("commits"), close them to free up memory, and quickly restore them anytime from a searchable repository dashboard.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm Mostafa, the maker of GitTab!
If you are anything like me, your browser window is an absolute mess of tiny tab icons right now. I always hesitated to close them because I was afraid I’d lose the context of my current work or research. But keeping them open was eating up all my RAM.
I looked at other tab managers, but I wanted something that felt natural to developers. That’s why I built **GitTab**.
GitTab brings version control thinking to your browser tabs. Instead of hoarding tabs, you can now:
⚡️ **"Commit" individual tabs** to a read-later list or **commit entire sessions** to free up memory instantly.
🗂 **Browse your repository** through a clean, searchable dashboard to find that one article you saved days ago.
↩️ **Undo actions** with a 30-minute buffer—because we all accidentally close things sometimes.
🔒 **Stay completely private:** Everything is 100% locally stored using the Chrome Storage API. Zero external requests, zero tracking.
There is also a suite of power-user features: right-click context menus, Alt+S/Alt+Shift+S keyboard shortcuts, and export/import for backups.
Give it a spin and let me know your thoughts! How do you currently handle tab overload? I'll be hanging around all day to answer your questions and gather feedback.
Cheers,
Mostafa
