Hi Product Hunt! Today, the Digital Gardening Collective is launching its first initiative, i.e. Front Porch! Front Porch is your front porch on the web. It serves as your website, digital garden, portfolio, 'now' log, and blogroll. It is an open-source fork of Quartz, which won Best Tool in Obsidian's 2023 Gems of the Year Competition. For reference, Quartz is a "fast, batteries-included static-site generator that transforms Markdown content into fully functional websites." Quartz is an amazing foundation. Front Porch builds on this foundation to give you the following: - General homepage for yourself - A homepage for your Digital Garden - Portfolio - "About" page - "Now" Log - Blogroll - Built-in Content Folder Structure and Example Files (Notes, Essays, MOCs, Contributions, Now, and Blogroll) Front Porch relies on the use of Git and GitHub. With it, you get the following: - Free Hosting (via GitHub Pages) - Free Updates (via Git Merge/Rebase) - Version History (via Git and Github) - Able to accept contributions to your pieces (via GitHub Issues and GitHub Pull Requests) Soon, we will be adding... - Comments (likely via Giscus, which is a comments widget that is built on top of GitHub Discussions) - the ability to see pieces on the web that reference your work (via Webmentions) Front Porch was designed so that you wouldn’t need to know how to code at all. The most technical things that you have to do is edit a configuration file and run commands on your computer. However, there's no need to worry as the Digital Gardening Collective (DGC) has your back. On the DGC's website, you will find a listing of the Evergreen Heroes. These are digital gardeners who are willing to trade their time to help others create their own digital front porch. Lastly, since Front Porch is built on top of Quartz, there are plenty of people in Quartz's Discord community that will be able to help besides myself. 🙏🏾 Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. So, let us know what you think! 🙏🏾
