Hey ProductHunt! We’re Josh & Kelley, a team of two who created FreeTime to solve a simple problem: it’s too dang hard to find time to hang out with our friends. Hanging out with people used to be easy and natural. Our friends were people we saw several times every week. We shared life together. It’s much more difficult now (even before the pandemic). Everyone has work events, or soccer practice, or playdates, or all of the above. How does anyone fit a social life into all that? Does anyone over 30 actually have real friends? You’ve been there, you’re free on Friday, so you text a friend, but they’re not free until next Monday, but you’re busy that day… so you just give up and spend another night watching Netflix while scrolling through social media. Social apps were supposed to bring us closer together, but it doesn’t feel like they’ve succeeded. We want to see people in real life again, not watch their Instagram stories or read their hot takes on Twitter. We found ourselves wishing there was a way to easily see when all our friends were available each week and effortlessly book time to hang out. No back and forth. No calendar Tetris. So we spent our year of quarantine looking ahead, dreaming about a world we break out of our Zoom boxes again, and building FreeTime. It’s a site where the entire goal is to help you spend less time on your phone, not use algorithms to get you addicted to feeding data to ad bots. Try it out, add in some time, send your link to all the friends and family you miss, and then get off the Internet. Have coffee. Share a meal. Go bowling. Reclaim your free time.

I was using Calendly the other day and almost used it on family to arrange a call. The one reason I didn't... it felt very formal and cold (but the functionality of Calendly was exactly what I needed). FreeTime hits that sweet spot! The design, voice, and tone of the landing page are super strong. Great work!

@new_user_f61ff363a1 thanks so much Paul! That's EXACTLY what we were going for!

Although this looks like a very practical product, it doesn't feel right to me having your friends on a list with a "book" button next to them

@alexander_p1 "Book" should really be something like "Hang Out".

Thanks for the feedback! “Hang out” is more accurate to how the action is described everywhere else in the app. Good call. I chose “Book” simply because it was short and fit on the button nicely 😂

@secondfret Hang (instead of Book or Hang out) - Or just make it be the type of event (coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks, movie....)

This is so handy. Y’all are solving a very real problem with such an elegant solution. My favorite feature is the toggle to show overlapping time between friends. Lovely work!

If you need an app to schedule time with your friends, you don't have any.

I definitely like the execution of this because it is straight forward and quick to fill out. This app reminds me of a startup I saw during college, UFree, which has a similar concept. It had a hard time gaining traction because it turns out it is easier to text your friends instead of filling out when you are free.

Great idea. This can definitely work for biz too!
