Kris and I go on a lot of group trips together. And we got tired of transaction limits in other expense splitting apps. So we decided to build our own.
FreeSplit is a simple, open-source web app that helps groups track shared expenses and automatically minimise the number of payments needed to settle up. It's completely free to add as many expenses as you need, and our smart split entry makes it easy to swap between split types without starting over.
No accounts. No paywalls. No transaction limits. Just clean, fair math and instant sharing.

It would be great to see a mobile-friendly PWA version — so we can quickly add expenses while on the go 📱.
@salma_ghana great news, its already a PWA! From Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android your can add to home screen!
A feature I’d like to add is caching your groups locally so you can add expenses even without internet, then have them sync when you’re online next 😊
Maybe think about adding a ‘currency selector’ for international trips? That would be perfect for global travelers
Interesting idea @donna_light012 ! I appreciate the feedback. Is the goal here to manage a trip where multiple currencies are involved?
A simple summary export (PDF or CSV) would be super handy for keeping track of group expenses 📊

@ms_casey_tom @tomiss I’m actively working on this, it just didn’t make the cut for launch. CSV imports and exports in the same format as that other expense splitting app so you can easily move over
