Auto-Subtitle Generator is a free, open-source Windows desktop app that automatically transcribes your videos into accurate, stylish, word-level subtitles — using OpenAI Whisper (offline, private) or the Groq API (cloud, ultra-fast). Style your captions like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, or Instagram Reels, then burn them directly into your video or export asSRT /VTT.

👋 Hi Product Hunt! Thanks so much for checking out Auto-Subtitle Generator.
I'm an independent developer who creates tools for content creators. I built this because I was frustrated with subtitle software that required expensive monthly subscriptions, added watermarks, or forced me to upload private videos to the cloud.
So I decided to build an alternative that is:
✅ Completely free
✅ Open source (MIT License)
✅ No watermark
✅ Works offline with OpenAI Whisper
✅ Supports ultra-fast transcription with Groq Cloud
✅ Word-level subtitles with an interactive timeline
✅ One-click subtitle styles for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels
✅ Export MP4, SRT, and VTT files
Whether you're a YouTuber, educator, podcaster, or video editor, my goal is to make professional AI subtitles accessible to everyone—without subscriptions or hidden limitations.
I'd genuinely love your feedback. If you have ideas for new features, languages, subtitle styles, or platform support (macOS/Linux), please let me know. Every suggestion helps shape the future of the project.
If you find the project useful, a GitHub ⭐ would mean a lot and help more creators discover it.
Thank you for your support! ❤️

How well does it handle heavy accents or background noise when running Whisper fully offline? I've got a lot of interview footage with crosstalk and I'm curious how reliable the word-level timestamps are before I burn anything in.

Runs whisper offline right out of the box, which is great for keeping footage private. The word level styling presets actually look closer to real short form captions than I expected.

does the Whisper offline mode actually work well on longer videos or does it choke past like 10 minutes of footage?
