Tools like Observable and Streamlit put your interactive code on a server that has to stay up. framejs.io encodes the whole app, with javascript, CSS, state directly into the URL itself. Prompt AI to build one, paste the link anywhere, and it just runs. No deploy, no host, and share anywhere, it always looks good. Open source and easily incorporated into your own apps, or use standalone.

I've been building scientific workflows for over 20 years, and sharing rich complex data visualizations has always been very difficult. Platforms like codepen and online code editors solve a part of this, but they are too complicated, and they are not built around sharing. framejs is laser focused on ease of use by AI and looking great and informative wherever you share it: it unfolds with an autogenerated (but editable) title, description, and image. Whoever has the app or visualization can edit it directly and immediately. So this works really well as an embedded component in your app, as well as standalone editable code and data. Try it out, it's a one line install, and then you are creating apps and visualizations immediately, and sharing is one click. The core is all open source, and we aim to keep the versioned forms as durable artifacts, so good for science.

this is genuinely clever, love the url-as-app idea. one thing that would make it way more useful for me though is some kind of optional expiration or signed link feature so i can share stuff with sensitive data without worrying about the full state living in the url forever

@jean_connie It's already implemented! Click the top right to get the internet editor, and click "Create expiring snapshot". They URL is a sha256 of the content (so unique and unguessable) and the URL lasts for 30 days then is deleted.

@jean_connie And if you "Save" the page, you get a unique uuid based URL that you can make private or public.

A new way to communicate

I honestly believe that the way we communicate digitally can be upgraded, and framejs is one of my many attempts to improve this. We should be sharing simulations, rich visual data, and interactive models, directly. Sharing is connected with storage, where the thing you share needs to be as self-contained as possible, since in the distant future you might need to look at this again, framejs is designed to work decades after this time point.
Experiment! You can create pretty amazing visualizations, focus on your domain of interest, you will be pleasantly surprised.
