Stop waiting for previews to load. Fovea is a native macOS photo workflow built for speed and privacy. cull RAWs instantly, edit with local AI, and own your software. Built by a photographer, for photographers.
Why I built the photo editor I couldn't find.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Nathan, a professional photographer (and former magician 🎩) based in Australia.
For years, I’ve felt the same pain as many of you:
Software is getting slower. We have supercomputer chips (M1/M2/M3), yet our photo tools still lag.
All the different tools we pay for are becoming a drainer, and Adobe keeps increasing their prices...
So, I built Fovea. It started as a side project fueled by coffee and frustration, and today I'm sharing the public beta with you.
🚀 What makes Fovea different?
* Zero-Latency Culling: It uses a proxy-first architecture that feels instant.
* Privacy-First AI: Face detection, subject scoring, and "best-in-scene" suggestions happen 100% on-device. No cloud uploads.
* Native & Beautiful: Built with SwiftUI and Metal, it’s designed to feel like a premium Mac app, not a web wrapper.
🧪 The "Develop" Module (Beta Test) The culling engine (to me feels) rock-solid - but keen to hear people's experiences. I’ve recently added a Develop Module (editing) because I want a complete workflow. This is where I need you. It’s early days for the editor. It has curves, HSL, and color grading, but it’s still experimental. I need to know:
- Is it fast enough?
- Does it replace your current editor?
- If not, what's missing?
💰 A Question on Pricing: I want Fovea to be accessible. I hate the "Adobe Tax." I'm wanting to offer this at a really reasonable price, like, the cost of a cup of coffee or two per month. And maybe I'll throw in a lifetime purchase option.
Tell me in the comments: What is a fair price for a pro tool like this?
I’ll be hanging out here all day answering questions. Let me know what you think!
Cheers,
Nathan
