Garen D Orchyan
Looks great. Congratulations on the launch team♥️🦄
Evan Brown
@orchyan thank you!!!!!
Alec McNiff
Folsom has helped me better acknowledge, articulate, and respond to my feelings, as well as those of my friends! Best of luck with the launch - hope others enjoy the experience as much as I do!
Evan Brown
@alecmcniff we appreciate you!!!!!! well said, thank you sir!!!
Alexander Martino
@alecmcniff thanks so much for your support!!

Wow this is refreshing. I've disengaged with social technology for quite some time now. I've personally gotten around this by creating my own framework for how I handle my relationships by actively making phone calls, coordinating in person hangouts, etc. This philosophy was developed from a core belief that technology in it's current landscape (¿hellscape?) does not align with my values. I've been following Folsom for some time and it is excitingly challenging that belief and re-engaging me.
Evan Brown
@adnan_zaib thank you so much!!!!!! its the most important discussion topic we face right now and honored to have you thinking through it alongside us. connection is the most important thing in whatever format it takes!!!
Shaw McKean
@adnan_zaib thanks so much! so stoked to have you on the journey with us
Alexander Martino
@adnan_zaib that means so much to hear! thanks for your support and excited to have you on this journey to rethink how technology can serve humanity
Joey DeBruin
Awesome! What are some of the prompts you've experimented with that have been most successful?
Shaw McKean
@joey_gladly such a good question! we love prompts that feel ~soulular~ in nature. for example, "what's your happy place?" but we are also drawn to really any prompts that help friends get to know their friends more intimately!
Alexander Martino
@joeydebruin I think even the simplest questions like "what's something your excited about/nervous about/grateful for" are sometimes the most powerful ones I also think ones like "what's something you're trying to let go of?" really get to the heart of who we are and who we want to be
Varun Sriram
Been following Folsom, and hard not to get behind the concept. As more and more people realize the dangers of social media, Folsom refreshingly addresses these concerns focused on mental health. Go @evanfeelsfeelings and team!
Evan Brown
@varun_sriram1 We love you Varun!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
Hunter Carter
Folsom is the name of a prison. Most people who know the word would think of that first, because it was made popular by Johnny Cash. Strange name choice.
Evan Brown
@school_4_ants you're right Hunter! And the nice street in San Francisco. We actually named it folsom after the word følsom in Norweigan, which translates to sensitive, compassionate, tender, thoughtful. All things we care about and want to embody. Curious for your thoughts on the app and whether it helps to rebrand the word for you away from the prison
Shaw McKean
@school_4_ants here's the story of how we landed on the name folsom: for a little while, we'd toyed with the name sensi, but it felt a bit off... still, i loved the word sensitive. why? for starters, i consider myself a pretty sensitive fella, and having been labelled sensitive in a pejorative way, it felt nice to reclaim the word. also, while sensitive can mean thin-skinned, it more traditionally means being able to pick-up on and react to other people's emotions. it's a word that suggests an outward, caring focus. that's a big part of what we hope to support with folsom! so, me and my co-founders started rattling off words that mean sensitive in foreign languages. foreign languages? well, there's a very cool phenomenon where there are certain words for feelings in foreign languages that don't have an english equivalent (check out our tik tok for a few examples). moreov er, untranslatable feelings in foreign languages highlight how complex and nuanced our emotions are! so, actually looking beyond the english language felt like it might make sense. after trying out a few options, we landed on folsom: norwegian for sensitive. yes, we know about the prison and the street fair. it still sounded right.
Griffin Jones
it's been really fun exploring folsom - i think it has huge potential to both make me more in touch with my own emotions and to help me connect with my confidants. onwards!
Shaw McKean
@griffin_jones1 thanks so much! we love that you're loving folsom. for many of our users, it's truly become the preferred platform for staying close to their friends.
Alexander Martino
@griffin_jones1 we're so glad to hear that, and deeply appreciate your support <3
