I built FirstPic to solve the problem of not knowing which photos to use on your dating app profile. I built a model using a convolutional neural network to score the suitability of photos for dating apps, particularly whether a photo should be the first one on your profile. The model is trained to rate photos on their quality for dating apps - not the beauty of the subject relative to societal standards. The model originally output a score and contextualized it by comparing it to the photo scores of other users so you could see where you ranked. After launching, I got feedback from early users that they want to understand why their photo scored a certain way, so I built a photo feedback component into the model. Early users also struggled with crafting content for their bio and prompts on Tinder, Bumble and Hinge, so I built another model to take user inputs on a handful of questions about themselves and generate engaging bio and prompt content. I combined the photo analysis process with the content generation so that the product generates a full dating app profile based on the user's inputs.
