FireRanger doesn't just detect kitchen fires, it actually cuts the power to the range and stops them too. This has the potential to save hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage, save lives, reduce injuries and potentially cut insurance premiums too.
The inventor is a good friend of mine. When I first heard of this product I thought it was astonishing and the idea is so simple I can't believe it hasn't been thought of before. There are one or two other similar products out there now, but they aren't as easy to use or require access to your breaker box if there is a fire. This is so simple and very effective. And if it saves hundreds of lives then its not only desirable it (or something like it) should be mandatory in new builds.
