This is probably the app that most developers who attended or watched the multipeer connectivity framework session at WWDC thought of building at first, but then gave up. In my opinion it exponentially amplifies the most critical problem with all the hyperlocal messaging apps--"Who else is on this now?"
ok I opened the app all excited to see what the fuss what about and saw the most horrifying NSFW stuff, I mean like peewee's big adventure 18 wheeler falls off the empire state-building scary chats. I have a screenshot of the 'conversation' near 10018 but it's probably better that I can't share the screenshot here.
This is cool. Bluetooth LE is clearly the way to go with these apps - the more relevant the use case (stadium, concert, etc.) the more difficult it is to get a connection. This is also the reason one of these apps - eventually - will catch on. It solves a real problem: no service at big events. That said, no one is currently looking at anonymity correctly. Secret and Whisper are looking at it one way (reveal your true identity), where the correct way of looking for location based anonymity is as a byproduct of simply not knowing (we are all anonymous IN-public). The latter will solve the "horrifying NSFW stuff" which is expected with no accountability - which isn't something we have to worry about in a public setting (police; or more likely people around you will self-police).
Exciting space to be in...
