Hi Product Hunt, I'm Ismail, and I made Filoshi.
Filoshi is a file converter for Windows that does everything on your PC. You drop a file on the window, a small paper character eats it, and the file you need appears next to the original. Nothing is uploaded, and once your license is activated it works offline for as long as you like.
Why I built it: I was halfway through converting a client's legal PDF on one of those free web tools when it hit me that I had no idea what happens to that file after I press Convert. I couldn't find a converter that was offline, clean and not a subscription, so I built one. The first sale came before I had told a single person it existed, which is what convinced me to share it properly.
What's inside 2.0:
• 1,841 conversions that pass our automated test matrix (images, video, audio, documents, archives). The app lists 2,501 in all: 220 more need a free add-on (LibreOffice or FreeCAD) and 440 aren't covered by a test file yet. I'd rather show the tested number than round up.
• The island: close the window and Filoshi moves to a small pill at the top of your screen. Drop a file on it, pick a format, drag the result out.
• Or he lives on your taskbar and perches on the window while it's open.
• A file viewer to crop, rotate, resize, trim or set the quality before converting.
• A PDF Suite: merge, split, organize, compress, protect, watermark, number and sign, and add text, pictures or drawings to a page.
• Seven characters and seventeen outfits. Sound is off unless you turn it on.
Under the hood it's Tauri 2 and Rust, with FFmpeg, ImageMagick, Pandoc, PDFium, pdfcpu and 7-Zip bundled inside the installer.
Honest notes:
• Windows 10 and 11 only for now. The Mac version of 2.0 is coming; Mac users can use 1.0.36 with the same key meanwhile, and 2.0 will be a free update.
• The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time. The download page shows exactly what to click.
• It's $29 once, with every 2.x update included. Sales are final, but if Filoshi doesn't work on your computer and we can't fix it together, you get a full refund within 30 days. You can try a photo conversion right in your browser on the homepage first; nothing is uploaded there either.
What I'd love your feedback on: which conversion you'd reach for first, anything that felt confusing in the first minute, and whether the character makes you smile or gets in your way.
I'm here all day to answer questions.
