Hi product hunters, 👋 I am the founder of Filestar. I’ve been building startups my entire life and the idea for Filestar has been in the back of my mind for a long time. I’m a productivity nerd and I love automation and low-code tools like Zapier and Airtable. I’ve been looking for a tool to automate my work with files and when I couldn’t find it I built it myself together with some colleagues. The problem I wanted to solve was a simple way to work easier with files without the cognitive overhead of using dozens of different applications for simple tasks. I wanted a solution where I can select a couple of files and through a search engine simply type what I want to do with the files. Our tag line is "Do anything with any file". We currently only have a Windows version, but an OSX version is on its way. Started using it as a quick way to make custom gifs out of the videos I'd post for the VR studio I was at. It quickly become increasingly useful once I realized the broader use-cases in helping automate certain tasks. I've found the converting tool itself to be more user-friendly than the online versions or built-in of various files systems. Love it!

I just love products like this, that takes relentless care about stuff that I care equally little about... until they start "acting up". Brilliant in its' simplicity and impressive depth/useability. Nice.

Very cool! Are there any plans to allow voice commands?

filestar is awesome! i used it for a couple of months now to batch resize images and converting csv files, all by just dropping the files on a desktop shortcut - doesn't get quicker & easier than that! i didn't use the new recipes function yet but it sounds amazing and will take my automation skills to another level! founder was very responsive and helpful and implemented some special resizing skills that i needed within a couple of days. highly recommended tool!

Needed to convert a few thousands of image files in the outdated wmf format to jpg -- could not even find a tool to open them in the first place! Filestar worked like a charm.
