For the past year, I have been working on what is essentially a version of Yabla or FluentU for Persian. For those who are not familiar with those tools, the idea is basically that you watch videos in the language you are learning, and you can slow down the audio, and lookup words that you are unfamiliar with.
I've been studying myself (and still do), and I've been at times frustrated with my progress in particular when it comes to listening comprehension - most movies, TV, etc. is just too advanced. Add to that that subtitles, if they exist, are likely to be in the Persian script, and it's difficult to learn in that way.
I didn't just want to take some YouTube videos and add a barely working dictionary search, so all the videos we have picked come with:
- full grammar annotations (so it'll tell you the verb tense, for example).
- a translation into English.
- subtitles with or without vowel signs, depending on your preference.
- and a transliteration, if you are not super comfortable with the script.
There is still a lot of work to be done, and we'll be doing it over the next couple of months!
