Local, instant, and fully under your control. Your files are yours. Your search should be too. fanSearch is a full-text search app that runs entirely on your machine. No cloud. No uploading. No background phoning home. Just you, your files, and a search index that you control. Index on your terms — You choose which folders to index, when to rebuild, and how deep to go. No mystery processes hogging your CPU.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built fanSearch because I was tired of two things: search tools that silently uploaded my file index to the cloud, and "local" search that choked whenever I opened a large log file or PDF archive.
I believe search is infrastructure, not a service. Your computer should be able to find its own contents without asking permission from a server. So I made something that indexes exactly what you want, stores it locally, and opens massive files before you finish blinking.
The index is 100% under your control. Want to index only your ~/Projects folder? Fine. Want to exclude .git and node_modules? Easy. Want to rebuild the index at 3 AM because you're a night owl? Go for it.
I'd love your honest feedback, especially if you regularly work with large documents or are particular about what runs on your machine. What formats should I add next? What would make this your default search tool?
Thanks for checking it out.
