Hey Product Hunt
Every budget app I've used starts the same way: give us your bank login. That request gets routed through an aggregator, and what's on the other side isn't a spending total it's line items. The pharmacy. The bar. The date and the amount.
I'm an Android engineer, and I kept thinking: none of this needs a server. Categorising a transaction is a small language model problem, and small language models run on phones now.
So Fainto has no bank connection at all. A SmolLM model ships inside the APK. You photograph a receipt or type an expense, and it's parsed and categorised on your device, offline, on a plane, in a tunnel. There's no upload, so there's nothing to sell, share, or leak. You can put it in airplane mode and use every core feature please do; that's the honest test.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Mohsen, Android Tech Lead and AI enthusiast. I built Fainto because I wanted an AI finance coach and couldn't find one I'd trust with my own bank data.
The problem with every AI budgeting app
Cleo, Rocket Money, Copilot — they all work the same way underneath. Your transactions get uploaded, an API call goes out to a model provider, and advice comes back. Your salary, your rent, your debts, your medical spending: sitting on someone else's server, protected by a privacy policy that can change tomorrow.
I didn't want "encrypted in transit." I wanted it not sent at all.
So the AI runs on your phone
Not a marketing claim — an architecture. The model executes on your device. Put Fainto in airplane mode, and the coach still answers your questions.
🧠 Five on-device models, from a 135M lightweight one up to Phi-4 Mini (3.8B), so it adapts to a budget phone or a flagship. ~10 tokens/sec, locally.
🔒 Zero bytes uploaded by default. No account, no email, no sign-up. Open it and start.
🌍 A 45-country tax engine — real income tax rules, not a US-only calculator. 25 languages.
📴 Fully offline. Plane, subway, bad signal, doesn't matter.
🚫 No ads. No trackers. No bank connection.
Why nobody else does this
Getting a 3.8B-parameter model to run inside an Android app's memory budget, at usable speed, without cooking the battery, took months of quantization and memory work. Shipping an API key takes an afternoon. That's the entire reason the "private AI finance app" category is empty.
Where it honestly stands
It's early. Solo project, Android-first. iOS is the most-requested thing, and I'm listening. I'd especially love to hear from anyone who's abandoned a budgeting app because they didn't want to link their bank — that's exactly who I built this for.
Free on Google Play. Happy to go deep on the on-device LLM side if anyone's curious — AMA.
The on-device approach is genuinely refreshing, especially the no-account setup. One thing that would make me stick with it long-term: recurring transaction detection that learns from manual entries. If Fainto could recognize a pattern like my monthly rent or weekly groceries after two or three logs and start suggesting them automatically, that would save real time.
@zzetl8bz Teşekkürler izzet ;) I've already added some logic in the background that will automatically suggest some items based on your data after a couple of days of working with the app and sends push notifications, but I'll definitely work on this item to make it available as well. Thanks so much for your review and interesting idea. :)
I'd appreciate it if you could leave a comment on Google Play. I'm constantly working on the app to make it better and more useful.

@zzetl8bz Hi izzet, some good news! Recurring transaction detection is now live 🎉🥳 — Fainto can identify patterns from your entries and help you recognize repeated expenses like rent, subscriptions, or regular grocery spending without requiring any account connection. Again, everything stays on your device, and the goal is to make tracking feel less like manual work and more like Fainto is learning your habits over time.
Thanks for helping us make Fainto better! 💚
Love the on-device angle, that's a real differentiator. One thing that would make it stick for me is a desktop or web companion that can sync over local wifi or a cable, since typing expenses on a phone keyboard still gets old when you're doing weekly reviews at a laptop.
@kellyparketl6a Appreciate the feedback, Kelly 💜, and I'm happy that you liked the app :) The plan is to ship IOS (very soon) to cover both platforms, and then Desktop or Web. I'll keep you posted once all is ready. Would that be something you'd be looking for? Feel free to reach out also if you have any other ideas for the app, or you have a specific feature in mind, happy to ship that in the next release :) Here's the email: support@fainto.app
Love that it stays offline, the privacy angle is genuinely different from everything else out there. One thing I'd love to see is a simple CSV import for old bank statements so I can backfill a few months of history without typing everything in by hand. That would make the switch from my current app way less painful.
@abdulkadir70837 Appreciate the feedback. I already shipped this feature in the latest version because I didn't want the app to be connected to a bank API due to security and privacy concerns. Please update to the latest available version, try the CSV import feature (called import transactions at the bottom of the discover screen), and let me know by leaving a review how it works and if this is something you've been looking for :)

Cheers!
the on-device llm angle is genuinely cool, and the tax engine covering 45 countries is wild for a free app. one thing i'd love to see is a desktop or web version, even a simple read-only sync via local file export, so i can review my budget on a bigger screen without giving up the privacy-first setup.
@durankumsaidzi Makes sense, I'll put that as a priority then, as it was requested also above by Kelly. Happy that you liked the app so far. Please also consider leaving a review for the app, as it will help push this forward. Thanks again!
