Escribal is a Windows app that generates documents from a workflow: a list of instructions you or your AI agent set up once, without programming. It reads your data, loops, decides and calculates, then writes documents, spreadsheets, presentations and PDFs. You build it on a canvas, your agent over MCP, and after that it runs without AI: the same figures every time, on your computer, no cloud.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm the maker of Escribal.
Back in mid-2021 I heard about someone who had automated part of their office job by writing code. I didn't know how to program back then, and besides wanting to learn, one thought stuck with me: there should be a program that automates document generation without having to program. At the end of that year I started learning to code, and two years ago I started building Escribal.
Who it's for
Anyone who makes the same document over and over, with different data each time: the monthly report, a letter or a statement for every client, certificates for a list of participants, or a messy export that has to come out clean in another format. You don't need to code or work in any particular field.
How it works
You or your AI agent put together a workflow: it reads the data, transforms it (loops, conditions, exact arithmetic) and generates the documents. Save it, and next time you swap the data and press Run.
What's inside
• 700+ instructions in 90+ groups, each with its own help page in the app and on the website.
• It creates and edits eight file types (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDF, CSV/TSV, JSON, Markdown and text), and reads data from all of them but PDF. It also queries PostgreSQL, read-only and without saving the password.
• It opens your own templates on a copy: the original is never touched.
• For Each to repeat for every row, client or region; If to decide on a value; and decimal math, so 0.1 + 0.2 is 0.3.
You on the canvas, or your AI agent
You build it yourself on a canvas, picking instructions from a menu. Or, if you'd rather describe it, your AI agent builds it for you: Escribal ships with an MCP server, and any compatible agent looks up the instructions, writes the workflow, validates it, runs it and fixes it until the documents come out right. What it leaves you is not a black box: it's a workflow you open on the canvas and review instruction by instruction. Connecting it takes a minute: the app gives you the configuration already filled in.
What about AI?
I had this idea before AI could do everything it does today, so it's a fair question: why not just ask a model for the document? I think a workflow still has real advantages:
• Build it once, run it forever. You or your AI agent build it, and after that it runs without AI: the same figures every time, and no cost per run.
• You can review it instruction by instruction. If something fails, nothing is left half-written, and the instruction at fault is marked.
• It runs on your computer: no account, no uploads, no telemetry. Your database passwords never pass through the AI.
• One single workflow writes a spreadsheet, a deck, a PDF and a report with the same figures and the same look.
How to try it
It's on the Microsoft Store, for Windows 10 and 11, and the first week is free. I'll say it plainly so nobody gets surprised: the Store asks for a payment method to start the trial, without an active subscription or trial the app doesn't go past its first window, and for now it isn't available in the European Union or in China.
My recommendation: download the example from the website (the monthly close of a made-up company: one workflow, four documents) and connect your AI agent to try everything Escribal can do. Ask it to change something, to add a slide, or break something on purpose and see how it tells you.
