Empirical automatically constructs visual roadmaps for engineering teams' epics using data-driven forecasts backed by Monte Carlo methods. Forecasts update in-real time as soon as things change in your ticketing system. Currently available for Jira.

Hi! I'm the creator of Empirical. Empirical is a tool (currently available as a Jira plugin) that's purpose built for engineering managers and tech-leads who need a better way to roadmap. Quarterly roadmaps are often built...and later 'torpedoed' by unexpected changes. Projects go 'off-track'. This sucks for the team as they're constantly asked to provide updated estimates and timelines -- can we cut X, what if we re-priortize Y? etc. That takes time away from the team that would be better spent shipping. Empirical solves this problem by automatically generating a visual roadmap for your team's epics using a Monte Carlo model that samples from per-developer historical cycle times and simulates the team working through open tickets in your sprints and backlog. The result is a highly accurate probabilistic forecast that makes it very easy for stakeholders to understand the probability of your team will ship something on or before a certain date. Empirical's forecasts update in real-time as soon as things change, so your roadmaps are truly 'agile'. When something goes off track, you can cut-scope, re-prioritize, or re-assign work and see your epic timelines update in real-time. Check it out, and I'd love your feedback!
