Echo is an AI-powered voice transcription app for macOS designed for fast, hands-free writing. Instead of typing, you can press a shortcut key, speak, and have your words instantly converted into text and inserted wherever your cursor is — email, notes, code editors, or any other application. Built as an open-source alternative to Wispr Flow, Echo focuses on speed, simplicity, and flexibility for developers and power users.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m excited to share Echo, an open-source AI voice transcription tool for macOS that lets you write using your voice.
I built Echo because I wanted a fast, simple way to convert speech into text anywhere on my Mac without switching apps or workflows. Most tools felt heavy or locked behind subscriptions, so I decided to build something lightweight and developer-friendly.
With Echo, you can:
• Press a key and start speaking
• Instantly transcribe using Groq or OpenRouter
• Automatically paste the text into any active app
• Run it quietly from the menu bar with no dock clutter
• Use multiple profiles with custom prompts for different writing styles
My goal was to make voice-to-text feel as natural as typing.
Echo is fully open source, and I’d love feedback from the community on how it can be improved.
If you try it, let me know:
What worked well for you?

Thanks for checking it out! 🚀
