Facts:
1- The dude’s wife had originally accepted the voucher and they had deplaned. When they found out that the timing of new flight doesn’t work, the dude forces himself past gate agents on the flight.
2- At that point this is a security breach and police was called. Chicago PD had to forcibly remove him after he refused to leave.
3- They had to open seats for united employees because they were on flight clock, and had to crew another flight leaving Louisville. Failure to get them there would cancel flight for 80+ people

@patrick_dugan1 still not his problem that United plays the overbooking game, tho. He was a paying customer, voucher timing or not. Ya know?
Report
@brynatweets still not entitled to a seat. Ya know?
Report
@patrick_dugan1 Fact: flight wasn't overbooked. It was United that screwed up. Fact: guy lost 2 teeth and had concussion. Fact: you gotta seriously be an asshole to justify what happened.
Report
@ptolideh@brynatweets So the police tell you to get off the plane, you ignore them (wtf??), in the process of being physically removed (again, your choice) you get injured and you don't assume any responsibility??
Report
@ptolideh why did they tell him to leave a none full flight?
This is hilarious! But I'm also totally freaking because United is the ONLY direct flight from Tampa to SF (frequent flyer). I hope another airline picks up the route. We desperately need innovation here. 😰
@bamariefuller just take United. I'm sure you've made a mistake before in your life, and (hopefully) all your friends didn't ignore or push away you. I don't like United, but don't ruin your day because of an exaggerated news story that's almost a week old
@jfourcher I've flown United enough to know this is a small part of a much bigger problem. Sure it's a series of unfortunate events, but these poor decisions indicate a bigger problem with leadership and culture. It might sound trivial, but those things can keep you safe at 36,000 ft. On my last United flight I was in the back row and listened to the flight attendants exchange intimate details about their tinder experiences ... loudly and for 2 hours straight! The only domestic airlines who have it together are JetBlue & Virgin America, which is going away. Southwest is close. I'm sorry this happened to Dr. Dao, but I hope it inspires better leadership at United and across the industry. Traveling is great, flying usually sucks.

@bamariefuller flight attendants talk to each other? 😮 Not cool.

You guys have to admit the passenger wasn't acting reasonably. How else are you supposed to deal with an erratic passenger on a plane who, for all you know, could be mentally ill aggressive. This wasn't the case, but the passenger should have made an attempt to cooperate with security.
Report
@jfourcher l'd like to know your source. Cause passenger testimonies argue against what you just said. Also the flight wasn't overbooked. Therefore, those passengers legally had the right to stay on that plane. United screwed itself.
Report
@ptolideh source of what?
How come United wanted him to leave then?
Report
So this works with Google flight search only? Can it detect United appearing in third party sites as well?
I haven't tried this extension, but it's an interesting way to build on the news from this PR disaster. I'm still waiting for the Dr. Dao iPhone game...
All the good people working at United that had nothing to do with this incident are hurt by this too. As horrible as the incident is, this extension is not doing any good.

I was in the airline biz for several years. Many of us were in the industry because we loved it and certainly not for the pay. However, I'm very glad I'm not involved in the business any longer. I also worked as an airline consultant several years ago and did a white paper on the future of airline consolidation. There's an old saying in the airline business, "the quickest way to become an airline millionaire is to start as a billionaire".
