Drag any file onto the menu-bar icon. DropItDown converts it to clean Markdown locally, files it into your vault, and hands the path to your AI agent. Convert once — stop burning tokens on raw PDFs. Native macOS app, BYOK, no account.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I basically live in the terminal with Claude Code, and all day I get files I want to hand to my agent — chat downloads, screenshots, PDFs, the odd spreadsheet. The problem: making an agent parse a docx or PDF directly burns a pile of tokens and is clumsy.
So I built DropItDown. Drag any file onto the menu-bar icon →
• it's converted to clean Markdown on your Mac (no upload, no token burn)
• filed into the right folder in a plain-Markdown vault, with a one-line summary
• the note's path lands on your clipboard — paste it into Claude Code or Cursor and the agent reads text, not a binary
Later I can ask the agent to grep the vault and it finds anything (those one-line summaries are the index). One click writes a CLAUDE.md so any agent opened there knows how to search it. The vault is just Markdown — zero lock-in (works with Obsidian, or nothing).
It's BYOK: classification runs on your own key (any OpenAI-compatible endpoint). Conversion itself is local and free. No account, no server — your files never leave your Mac. Native SwiftUI, open source.
Honest caveats: macOS 14+ / Apple Silicon only, and it's a ~200MB download (it bundles a full offline conversion pipeline, so there's nothing else to install).
I'd love to hear: what file types would you throw at it first? And what would make this a daily-driver in your agent workflow? — Nova
