What do you think? …

Can't wait to see other sites get a makeover like this. I was surprised to see that the Plenty of Fish page looked like how it does, but perhaps it's a limitation for being bootstrapped for so long. I wonder if it'll get a shiny coat of paint with the recent acquisition by Match. If anyone is curious, I made a side-by-side of the current POF page and the DoubleConversions version:

@p_ngu I feel like part of why pof always did so well was because of its horribly designed website! Well, that and it was free :)
Phil Nguyen
@rossdcurrie Suppose it worked for craigslist!

@p_ngu "Frind is aware of his site's flaws but isn't eager to fix them. "There's no point in making trivial adjustments," he says. Frind's approach -- and the reason he spends so little time actually working -- is to do no harm. This has two virtues: First, you can't waste money if you are not doing anything. And second, on a site this big and this complex, it is impossible to predict how even the smallest changes might affect the bottom line. Fixing the wonky images, for instance, might actually hurt Plenty of Fish. Right now, users are compelled to click on people's profiles in order to get to the next screen and view proper headshots. That causes people to view more profiles and allows Frind, who gets paid by the page view, to serve more ads. "The site works," he says. "Why should I change what works?"" http://www.inc.com/magazine/2009...

Hey, that's my project on PH! If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to let me know :)

@2xconversions I love this idea! How do I submit a site to be madeover? That way it's not just a hypothetical, we could actually measure!
Thomas Friday
@rossdcurrie Thanks! Right now there's no official way to do so, but feel free to send me an email and I'll see what I can do :) thomas@doubleconversions.com
