Hey Product Hunt! 👋

I'm Gautam, and I built Dokly while raising an 8-week-old puppy. Yes, that's her in the photo. Yes, she was very helpful (she wasn't).

Here's the story:

Last year I needed docs for a side project. My options were depressing:

• Mintlify: $300/mo. For docs. 💸

• GitBook: $249/mo for the good features

• Docusaurus: Spent a weekend configuring instead of writing

• Notion: Not built for public docs

I thought: what if premium docs didn't require a premium budget?

6 months of chaos later, Dokly exists.

What I built (between potty breaks and destroyed slippers):

✍️ MDX editor with live preview

🔌 OpenAPI → interactive API playground

⚡ Instant Cmd+K search

🎨 Custom domains & branding

📊 Analytics dashboard

Pricing:

• Free: 1 project, 5 pages (actually useful)

• Pro: $49/mo (everything unlimited)

• That's 84% less than Mintlify

No VC. No team. Just me, my laptop, and a puppy who thinks keyboards are chew toys.

I'd love to hear: what's your biggest frustration with docs tools?

Now that someone finally sleeps through the night, I have time to read every comment 🐕

Congrats on your launch, upvoted! What is an MDX editor and why is it better than just any other editor?

Another note that mintlify has much more functionality related to the automatic doc generation, can your app do it, too?

@seacat Hey Kath, thanks for checking out@Dokly

An MDX editor is an editor that support markdown + JSX components. It is more dev friendly since users can write documentation just as they write code.

Agreed, mintlify has much more functionality but not everyone needs that. My target audience are users who want:

  1. Quick setup (2 minutes from signup to live website)

  2. To automate their doc infra management. Dokly takes care of deployments, caching, cdn everything. You do not need to write your own CI/CD pipelines.

  3. Fair, transparent pricing. Dokly is just a one man show so I never want to compete with big players like Mintlify. I want to carve my own niche of users and most importantly want to work with my users directly to shape the future of docs in this new era of AI.

Btw I just integrated AI to Dokly. Bring Your Own Key and only pay for what you use :D!

@gautam_sharma29 Cool, btw I found a bug on the pricing page (maybe others have it too)
