DNSChat is a native iOS and Android app that talks to an LLM through DNS TXT records instead of regular HTTP APIs. Why? DNS often works in places where ports or domains are blocked, throttled, or unstable. DNSChat slices prompts and responses into compact chunks, sends them via DNS, and reassembles the conversation on your device. It’s open source, so you can audit the code, run your own relay, or adapt it for your environment. Who is it for? Builders, SREs, researchers, travelers, journalists—anyone who needs a resilient path to an LLM when networks are constrained. Why now? Networks fail in weird ways. Understanding and owning your fallback matters. Limitations: throughput is lower than HTTP and latency depends on resolvers and caching. This is truely awesom! Using DNS for LLM chat? That's kinda genius imo, fr. Being able to chat even with bad wifi is a game changer for anyone who travels a lot or works in places with unreliable internet. So cool that it's open source too! How's the latency in practice though, compared to a normal API call?
