I'm an avid off-roader / builder with a bad memory. So when it comes to which calipers I used on my disc brake conversion and what bearings and seals I used on the axles I simply don't recall. I need to dig through email chains and folders of receipts to piece together which part was used for which build.
So I built an app to track it all. Now I have it at my finger tips in the garage. As well I have the torque specs I used and the size of wrench's needed for each bolt. Makes the repairs just a little easier and ensures I have the correct parts.
